You hop into your car only to find your windows fogged up to the point where you can’t see out of the glass. What do you do now? You turn on the car, turn the heater to full blast, and start wiping the glass with your sleeve. That doesn’t seem to help as the moisture is just smearing across the window. All you can do now is wait for the glass to warm up before you begin your commute. We have all encountered this situation at least once in our lifetime, but when it’s cold out, foggy windows become a common occurrence.

So what can you do to prevent your windows from fogging up?

Your car’s windows fog up when the temperature drops due to excess moisture in the air that gets deposited onto the glass. Your first step could be to avoid introducing any new moisture from getting into the cabin, which means shaking snow or rain from your boots and umbrella before getting into the car. Wiping the windows periodically will remove dust and dirt from the glass that help moisture cling to the window. Moisture can also build up from simply breathing in your car, and if you have your heater set to recirculate, the moisture that’s already present is also being circulated, so set your heater to circulate fresh air to keep moisture out. And if you want to further remove moisture there are products out there that are specifically designed to absorb excess moisture. They can get pricey with each replacement, so to save money for the same effect, check out this life hack video!

Who would have thought placing an old sock filled with cat litter inside your car would do the trick of preventing your windows from fogging up. According to this life hack video, placing kitty litter into a sock, tying it up, and leaving the sock in your car can absorb excess moisture. The guy in the video uses silica cat litter as that’s more absorbent, but the process is the same. How’s that for a life hack?
